Communications and Organizing Internship

Location: 50% Remote 50% Onsite, As Needed
Salary: $17-$20/hour based upon experience

Status: Part-time, temporary, 30 hours per week

Start date: Immediately, End Date: September 2022

 

Position Description

We are looking for a hard-working, proactive, and mission-driven intern to immediately join our team on a part-time basis or starting May/June, 2022 through December, 2022. Ideal candidates will be seeking a position that advances significant social justice causes through their work.

 

We work exclusively with nonprofits, public-sector entities, and progressive causes and campaigns. The intern will work closely with our team and must be comfortable with managing multiple work streams, deadlines, and a diverse client portfolio. We are a fully remote company, and so most work will occur remotely with some in-person meetings, events, and duties.

 

This position is best suited for applicants with some relevant prior experience working on any of the following: campaigns, non-profit development, donor and campaign finance research, fundraising, drafting communications, and/or effectively using digital tools and databases.

 

You will receive training from our expert staff and develop skills in the following areas: campaigns, field organizing, communications, public policy, and project management. 

 

Duties and tasks may include:

  • Conduct project research and due diligence (including campaign finance analysis, voter turnout history, and other publicly available sources)

  • Support field organizing and canvassing activities (including data entry, developing outreach scripts)

  • Staff organizing activities and events for clients (including phone banks and fundraisers)  

  • Perform fundraising or outreach calls 

  • Research and develop social media content

  • Draft and send email communications with clients and community partners

  • Update the press tracker and prepare press clips

  • Monitor Google alerts for relevant organizations/people 

  • Maintain or update project contact lists    


Experience

​Required:

  • A history of relevant prior experience or skill set aligned with the above work areas.

  • Demonstrated history of supporting projects that advance social justice or racial justice, or work to improve systems to improve the lives of people they serve.

  • Willingness to learn, a propensity to ask questions proactively when you don’t know the answer, and critical thinking.

  • Familiarity with digital tools for social media accounts & communications platforms.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Comfort communicating with clients and to members of the public.

  • Experiences using Google Apps for Business, like Drive, Gmail, and Calendar

 

Preferred (any of the following):

  • Experience with email software including Mailchimp, Constant Contact.

  • Experience with voter outreach software including NGP VAN/TargetSmart.

  • Experience with CRM software.

  • Experience with advocacy and fundraising software including EveryAction, Action Network, etc.

  • User interface design skills (CSS, HTML, javascript, etc), or GUI website builders (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.).

  • Graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Suite or comparable tools.

  • A strong sense of social justice and a desire for long-term change.

  • Ability to think critically about our work and its potential and real impact on communities.
